MEGANISI

A SAILOR'S PARADISE

MEGANISI REMAINS AN EXCLUSIVE ANCHORAGE FOR SAILORS AND ITS NUMEROUS BEACHES AND COVES WILL NEVER FEEL CROWDED

Meganisi is a beautiful small paradise located just 2 hours (12nm) away from Lefkas. It used to be a day trip destination; however, the development of a few villas and the recent opening of a new hotel are increasingly bringing the island in the touristic radar. Despite that, it remains an exclusive anchorage for sailors and its numerous beaches and coves will never feel crowded.

The main village is Katomeri, where most people live. Vathy is the main harbour and the most picturesque village of the island; it attracts many yachts and we highly recommend spending the night there to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Alternatively, head to the nearby Spilia or Abelaki bay if you are looking for a more remote environment for your first night on board. From Spilia, you can also walk to the hilltop village of Spartochori to get breakfast and enjoy the views.

What to do

There is not much happening in Meganissi and that makes it an ideal place for relaxation. You can try hiking the numerous old footpaths that lead to abandoned old churches, small settlements and gorgeous views over crystal remote coves and spectacular green landscapes. This activity is more comfortably enjoyed during spring or autumn, when the temperatures are lower. In summer, dive into the refreshing waters of the numerous coves surrounding the island. Later in the afternoon, you can enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the seaside tavernas.

Beaches and Coves

Meganissi has a highly indented coastline and with deep bays and safe anchorages. These bays are home to many wonderful secluded swimming spots, most of which are accessible only by foot or boat. Agios Ioannis, Spilia, Fanari, Barbarezou, Pasoumari, Mikro & Megalo Limanari are our favourite spots. Most of the beaches are pebbled. The next day, take the chance to visit the large sea caves along the west side of the uninhabited southern arm of the island.
